India celebrates Teachers' Day on September 5 every year in the memory of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was the first Vice-President and second President of the country. Hindi cinema hasn't remained far from portraying the guru-shishya bond on the big screen.

The relationship between teachers and students has often been explored in Bollywood movies, some of which have inspired us all. Here are top 10 Hindi films involving an interesting teacher-student relationship.

#1 Parichay (1972)
Written and directed by Gulzar, Parichay had Jeetendra playing a tutor to five undisciplined children, who change their lives with love.

#2 Taare Zameen Par (2007)
Directed by Aamir Khan, the film had him also play art teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh who helps his eight-year-old student Ishaan Nandkishore Awasthi (Darsheel Safary) overcome dyslexia. The movie about despair and hope is iconic.

#3 3 Idiots (2009)
Rajkumar Hirani's brilliant 3 Idiots based on Chetan Bhagat's Five Point Someone has Boman Irani playing the director of an engineering college - Dr. Viru Sahastrabuddhe. He’s known as Virus amongst his students because of his strictness.

Mahesh Bhatt's Sir starring Pooja Bhatt and Naseeruddin Shah had Pooja playing a girl with a stammering problem and Naseeruddin, a compassionate college professor.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's pathbreaking film revolved around a blind and deaf girl (Rani Mukerji played a character inspired from Helen Keller's life) and her relationship with her teacher who himself later develops Alzheimer's disease (Amitabh Bachchan). The film won all awards and hearts alike.

Another movie made by Nagesh Kukunoor touching upon the teacher-student relationship was Iqbal. It was a story of a deaf and mute boy (Shreyas Talpade) in a remote Indian village who aspires to play for the national cricket team. He’s tutored by a local drunkard (Naseeruddin Shah), who was once a great cricketer.
