Navratri is celebrated all across India but for different reasons. The Sharad Navratri that falls after monsoon during the autumn season is the more popular of the two Navratris that are celebrated in a year, the other being Chaitra Navratri. In the eastern and north eastern parts of India Navratri is celebrated in praise of Goddess Durga who battles and kills Mahishasura to establish Dharma on Earth. The last day of the festival is celebrated as Vijayadashami. In the northern and western states of India Navratri is synonymous with the festival of Dussehra which celebrates the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana. The tenth day is called Dussehra and is synonymous with the triumph of good over evil.
Navratri is festival is filled with colour, heavy jewellery, vibrant clothes, unique hairstyles and of course delicious food.
