Sushmita Sen

Born on 19th November, 1975 in Hyderabad, Sushmita Sen is India's first Miss Universe. She won the Miss Universe competition in the Philippines in the year 1994. Earlier she won Miss India by defeating the favorite contestant, Aishwarya Rai (who later went on to win the Miss World Competition).

At the age of 24, Sushmita adopted her elder daughter Renee. In 2009, she adopted her second daughter Alisah.

After Femina Miss India relinquished the rights to choose the Indian representative to Miss Universe, Sen's project I Am She – Miss Universe India, which ran from 2010 to 2012, took over. From 2013 onward, Femina was awarded the contract back once again.

Sushmita Sen made her Bollywood debut opposite Sharadak Kapoor and Mukul Dev in Dastak (1996). The movie bombed at the box-office and so did her career. She did give a couple of good movies later on and is fondly remembered for her role in Main Hoon Na, Biwi No. 1, Filhaal and Fiza (item song).
