Waiting Movie Review

A beautiful movie that tugs at your heart. It is one of those unconventional movies that portray the very practical life that most Bollywood movies fail to depict.

Tara Kapoor (Kalki Koechlin) is a woman of the new age, recently married, trying to bring a change about the society. Shiv Natraj (Naseerudhin Shah) on the other hand is a retired professor in Cochin whose wife has been in coma for the last eight months. So newlywed Tara’s husband meets with an accident during a business trip to Cochin and gets admitted in a hospital there. The shell shocked wife travels down to Cochin, trying to wrap her head around the incident. It is there she meets the ever so calm Shiv Natraj in the hospital, sitting alone, scribbling notes. Shiv and Tara support each other while their partners recuperate at the hospital.

Performance wise, both Naseeruddin Shah and Kalki Koechlin are outstanding. Though the pace of the movie dips in the second half, it fails to dampen our interest.

Director Anu Menon has dexterously directed this movie with an honest attempt to tell a wonderful story.  This film captures the true essence of tragedy and the aftermath of it. It is a beautiful story about two people from different walks of life thrown into the face of adversity unearthing different ways to cope with it.

Waiting is neither for people who like Bollywood Masala movies nor for the ones who like films that end with a certainty. People who love experimental films and no-nonsense fiction, this one is made for you guys. This movie feels like fresh morning after a rainy dawn. It is definitely a must watch for all those who appreciate good cinema.
