Pink Movie Review

Set in Delhi, Pink revolves around 3 single independent working girls/Roommates, Meenal Arora (Taapsee Pannu), Falak Ali (Kriti Kulhari) and Andrea (Andrea Tariang) whose life takes a 180 degree turn after an incident where Meenal accidentally hits Rajveer (Angad Bedi) with a bottle on his head. Rajveer and his friends then start harassing the girls in every possible way and accuse them of an attempt to murder and prostitution. With no hope left, the girls' neighbor Deepak Sehgal (Amitabh Bachchan), a retired lawyer, comes to their rescue. What happens next is an hour long courtroom drama where Deepak Sehgal tries to prove the girls Not Guilty.

Pink is directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, written by Ritesh Shah, and produced by Rashmi Sharma and Shoojit Sircar.

What we liked about the movie:

1. No Gaana Bajaana: Thank goodness, except for one song playing in the background, the makers didn't include unnecessary songs in this movie
2. Exposes the Indian Judicial System: We all know how discriminating and unjust our officer are when it comes to filing a case against some rich and famous people. Aap paise wale ho toh you can go scott free even after committing a heinous crime like Rape.
3. Amitabh Bachchan: His performance is awesome. The conviction with which Big B delivers the dialogues make the audiences clap every time he makes a point.
4. Taapsee portrays the character of a helpless woman so well. Her frustration and helplessness makes us feel sorry  for her character.
5. Kriti who plays Falak shines throughout the movie esp in one scene where she calls up the guys to apologize but end up abusing and threatening them after the guys demand a sorry from her friend Meenal.
6. Andrea playing a North Eastern girl has nailed her role. She portrays the prejudices in our society towards North East girls.
7. The supporting cast has also done a terrific job.
8. The film sarcastically points out how in our society everything eventually becomes a girl's mistake, be it being raped because of wearing short clothes, boozing or staying alone.
9. Direction is brilliant, the first half is very interesting and fast paced.
10. Highlights the importance of Consent in Sex.

What could have been better:
1. The second half was quite dragged. The scenes revolving around Amitabh and his ailing wife were quite irrelevant and could have been avoided. Her death doesn't make the audience feel sad. We wonder if the director expect us to cry and say "badi achi aurat thi..bechari chal basi.. bahot dil dukha", honesty there was a lack of depth in that ailing lady's character and her scenes were absolutely bland.

Overall the movie PINK is worth watching and one of the best movies made in 2016. This film sends out a very strong message about sexual consent. No means No. Supporting this film is a way to empower women in India.
