Review:

Let us talk about the positives first:

  • Diana Penty: She is the star of the movie. Even though she has not appeared in many movies, she acts so easily and naturally. She is cute and she can act well in comedy scenes as also sad scenes. Diana must appear in more movies that give her meaty roles. She is filled with talent.

  • Not filled with Songs:  There are a couple of songs that play in the background, but we were happy that they were no useless songs forced into the movie. Had there been those typical Bollywood songs, the movie would have been too lengthy and super boring.

  • Story: The plot is good and quite unique and that makes us all interested in the movie.

  • 1 Scene:  A scene where the house staff of Javed Shaikh (Abhay Deol's Dad) try to stop Zoya's father from disclosing info about Happy. That scene is the highlight of the movie and all the actors esp  Ayesha Raza Mishra (playing Rifat bi) acted really well. That scene was hilarious.

  • Momal Sheikh:  This Pakistani lady has a very strong character. Her characters begins with a negative shade, but the emotions that she convey through her silence in the latter part of the movie makes us all feel the pain that she goes through by assuming that Abhay doesn't love her. Momal Sheikh is a very talented actress and we hope to see her more in Bollywood movies.

  • Javed Shaikh: A sincere Pakistani actor and does justice to his role.

Now the Cons:

  1. Defies Logic:  How conveniently people travel to and from Amritsar and Lahore was absolutely unbelievable.
  • Jimmy Shergill:  Dude please check monotony! His acts well in a serious role but not in a comedy, his was supposed to be a negative but funny role, but he wasn't funny at all.

  • Ali Fazal: Very mediocre in the acting department, makes his character so dull and uninteresting

  • Diana Penty's Role:  Sadly Diana Penty's role isn't too much, she runs away and then the rest of the characters take over. And most of them are bad. Had Diana been given a meaty role and more screen time then the movie would have been watchable.

  • Dialogues: If we are giving two stars to this movie it is primarily because of poor dialogues, esp the dialogues by Jagat Rawat like "kash Gandhi Pakistan mein hote", "Kash Mirza Ghalib Pakistan mein hote". By these dialogues the writer thought that we Indians would take pride when Pakistanis mourn the absence of great figures. But Mr. Writer, that was stupid and so annoying that after every 15 min you have Jagat Rawat saying the same thing. Jagat Rawat is very annoying in this movie. Not an actor that I would like to watch on screen..
The writer has given Javed Shaikh such absurd dialogues. Abhay Deol kuch bhi kare and Javed Shaikh says "yeh to Jinnah banega" and how on earth would a mass nikaah changes Pakistan's history was beyond my understanding.

Overall Happy Bhag Jayegi could is a clean family entertainer but it could have been a more entertaining flick. The dialogues are shoddy and should have been much better and mature.
