According to BoxOfficeIndia, Bollywood movie Rustom has now become the 2nd highest grossing movie of this year in terms of Nett Collections. Rustom crossed the total Nett business of another Akshay Kumar starrer 'Airlift'. Rustom "crossed the NETT business of Airlift over the weekend as it takes its business to around 124 crore nett while AIrlift grossed 123.46 crore nett in its lifetime run with the tax exemption in UP. The film will finish its lifetime business at around 125 crore nett making it the second highest grossing film of Akshay Kumar after Rowdy Rathore", according to boxofficeindia.
Box Office Jargons:
Gross Box Office Collection: The Total Amount collected through Ticket Sales on the counters of Cinemas or Online during a given time period.
Nett Box Office Collection: It is Gross Box Office Collection minus Taxes imposed by Government. This includes Service Tax, Entertainment Tax etc. The Entertainment Tax varies from 30% to 60% in various states of India. The Highest Entertainment Tax (60%) is charged in Uttar Pradesh.
In some cases, where a movie is made tax free or the tax is subsided, the Nett Collection can be highly impressive, however the same may not be true for Gross Collection.
