A day after Tanushree Dutta lodged a complaint with the Maharashtra State Commission for Women demanding an investigation against actor Nana Patekar, choreographer Ganesh Acharya, director Rakesh Sarang and producer Sami Siddiqui into a 10-year-old case of sexual harassment, the commission has issued a notice to them. The four have been given an ultimatum of 10 days to share their statements over the allegations levelled agaisnt them by Miss Dutta.

Speaking about the complaint, Nitin Satpute, the lawyer of Dutta, had told ANI on Monday, “The complaint has been lodged with the Maharashtra State Commission for Women. Tomorrow, we are going to move the complaint to the District Officer as per the Sexual Harassment Act Section 9.”

A couple of days ago, Dutta took everyone by surprise by accusing Nana Patekar of sexually harassing her on the sets of Horn OK Pleassss in 2008. The actress, in several interviews, claimed that she was forced to do lewd, vulgar and uncomfortable dance steps with Patekar, something she had not signed up for. The Aashiq Banaya Aapne actress also named choreographer Ganesh Acharya, director Rakesh Sarang and producer Sami Siddiqui alleging their involvement in the crime.

By her own admission, the incident left her in a state of trauma and she suffered personally as well as professionally. In 2008, Tanushree, a former pageant queen, had accused Patekar of misbehaving with her verbally and physically during the shooting of a song for the film Horn OK Pleassss. Ten years later, she is said to have ushered in the #MeToo movement in India by raising the same allegations against the veteran actor. She also alleged that Acharya, Sarang and Siddiqui had ganged up against her, “witnessing everything, but not interfering”.

Days after Dutta’s allegations, India’s own #MeToo movement kicked off. So far, Bollywood celebrities such as Alok Nath, Vikas Bahl, Rajat Kapoor, Chetan Bhagat and Kailash Kher, among others, have been accused of sexual misconduct on the social media.
