In 2012, Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala wasn diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. She had no clue about the disease until she felt very weak and went on to a hospital in Kathmandu with her brother. She flew to India and was admitted to Jaslok Hospital in Mumbai. She then flew to the USA for treatment
Manisha went through a successful surgery. She had to undergo chemo therapy and spent months at the hospital in New York. As of September 2017, she has been cancer-free for four years. She is now actively involved in spreading the awareness about the disease. She tweeted the symptoms of Ovarian Cancer and advised women to get it checked if the symptoms are frequent and persistent. Manisha Koirala will next be seen in Rajkumar Hirani's biographical drama Dutt, a biopic based on the life of actor Sanjay Dutt–where she will portray the role of the Sanjay Dutt's mother and legendary actress Nargis Dutt.
Ovarian cancer has the lowest survival rate of all gynecologic cancers, and is characterized around the world by a lack of awareness of symptoms and late stage diagnosis.
