Bollywood stars are celebrating Father's Day by sharing pictures and messages on Social Media. Before you have a look at them, let us find out the history of Father's Day celebration.
In 1913, the US Congress officially declared the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. There are two famous stories which are used to explain the origins of Father’s Day.
According to the first one, it all began because of an Orphan woman named Grace Golden Clayton from West Virginia lobbied her local Methodist ministers for a church service to honor fathers in 1908. It is believed that she was inspired to do so after the 1907 Monongah mining disaster. The calamity killed 362 men. Their deaths orphaned more than a thousand children. Mrs Clayton wanted to pay tribute to the deceased fathers, as well as her own.
According to the second tale, the daughter of a civil war veteran, Sonora Smart Dodd, from Arkansas, USA, wanted to pay tribute to her father in a special way. Her father had brought up 6 children after his wife passed away during childbirth. Sonora was just 16 when her father died died. While listening to a sermon for Mother’s Day – established in 1905, she became convinced of the need to celebrate Father's day to honor male parent. She campaigned to her religious leaders for a special service dedicated to fathers.
India has a joint family system and Indians are emotionally very attached to the head of their family - The Father. Bollywood stars are no different. They have taken to social media to celebrate Father's Day today. Let us have a look:
