Music plays an extremely important role in the success of Bollywood movies but music alone does not guarantee a great run at the box-office and our list of Top 10 songs of the year 2016 will only prove that. hough the year 2016 was a melodious one, we didn't have any Dil To Pagal hai or DDLJ Type of Music Album where we could clearly pick out a single winner. It was difficult to pick the Top 10 Bollywood Music Albums of 2016 but this is the best that we could come up with after our extensive research and checking the trends on Youtube over the last 12 months:

10. Mirzya (Title Song): Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra movies have always been known for their brilliant music. Remember Masakalli? Delhi 6 was famous only for his music, nobody took interest in Sonam Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan who were termed as flop stars in Bollywood. His movie Delhi 6 flopped but the music was extremely popular. Same happened with his latest movie Mirzya. He roped in Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Gulzar this time. There were 15 tracks in this album but the most popular one was the Title Song sung by Daler Mehndi. Daler brought in a unique energy to the song and the cinematography left us all speechless. Anil Kapoor's son Harshvardhan Kapoor was decent enough and Saiyami Kher was passable but it was the picturization of this song that made it extremely special. The horse riding and the bomb explosions looked stunning on screen and the music only added to the goodness that we saw on screen. Honestly for a Mumbai wala the lyrics went over my head but i was like "haan words sunnay mein achche lagre but samajh nahi aa raha".

9. Dangal (Dhaakad - Aamir Khan Version): We would have not included Dangal in the top 10 music albums of 2016 had it not been such a huge crowd puller. The music of Dangal grows on you. After watching the movie, you will start appreciating the music of Dangal even more. Pritam has composed the songs for Dangal and the Dhakad Song sung by Aamir Khan is the highlight of the album.

8. Shivaay (Raatein): Shivaay faced tough competition from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil at box-office, but both the movies did well. Shivaay wasn't really appreciated by critics as we could not swallow the mountain climbing "FekumFaak" of Ajay Devgan, esp in the opening scenes. Shivaay did have great action and had some beautiful compositions. One such song that really left an impression on us was Raatein. Raatein was sung by Jasleen Royal. Interestingly Jasleen was a contestant in India's Got Talent. Though she didn't win the competition, she did get noticed by our Bollywoodwalas. Jasleen Royal sang this song beautifully. She deserves at least a Filmfare nomination for this song.

7. Kapoor and Sons (Kar Gayi Chull): Kapoor and Sons was a heart touching movie that made a lot of us cry. Talented Ratna Pathak and Rajat Kapoor made it an interesting watch and of course Aaliya, Fawad and Siddharth were quite decent in their acts too. Termed as the craziest house party song of the year 2016, 'Ladki beautiful kar gayee chull' became extremely popular among music lovers. The song was composed by Badshah, recreated by Amaal Mallik, written by Badshah & Kumaar and sung by Badshah, Fazilpuria, Sukriti Kakar and Neha Kakkar.

6. Mohenjo Daro (Tu hai Tera Hi): When A.R. Rahman teams up with Ashutosh Gowarikar, we don't expect anything less than magic and that is what we expected from Mohenjo Daro. Rahman did deliver with Mohenjo Daro but like always (except Lagaan, thanks to Aamir Khan) Ashutosh Gowarikar let us down once again. His direction style is still stuck in the 90s. Ashutosh probably considers his audience stupid enough to accept whatever crap he rolls out with every movie. Rahman's beautiful music composition went waste because the movie bombed at the box office, but his songs didn't go unnoticed. Tu Hai..is undeniably on the best musical compositions by A.R. Rahman. Ashutosh Gowarikar seriously need to re-think on his direction technique. This song wasn't supposed to be a dance number and he made it appear like one. Pooja Hegde was poker face but Hrithik Roshan made the song worth watching. The song is unique and has this typical Rahman feel to it but we are not complaining. We loved it.

5. Udta Punjab (Da Da Dasse):  One of m favorite movies of 2016. Udta Punjab was stunning in depicting reality. Not only did it depict the reality of Drug mafia in Punjab, the offscreen leakage of the movie by Censor Board office also showcased how censor board is pressurized by politicians from across the country. Alia Bhatt's performance was worthy of an Oscar. If she doesn't win any award for this movie, then for sure our awards in India are rigged. Alia was too good in this movie. The songs were extremely popular but this song in particular is very soothing and instantly reminds us of all the scenes featuring Alia Bhatt. Ek Kudi was another beautiful composition. Da Da Dasse was sung by Kanika Kapoor and Babu Haabi and the music was composed by Amit Trivedi. The lyrics are deep and the song will give you goosebumps.

4. Sultan (Jag Ghoomeya): Bhale hi baby ko bass pasand tha, but yeh gaana tha Sultan ka jisne jag ghooma diya, musically. Jag Ghoomeya song was originally sung by Arijit Singh but due to his Pangaa with Bhaijaan, his song wasn't featured in the movie. The song was re-sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and his magical voice made it one of the most beautiful and successful songs of 2016.  Rest of the songs in the movie are those "Chaaloooo" types, yet entertaining but this song is the song that ruled the charts for many weeks in 2016. Irshad Kamil penned the lyrics for this romantic number and music directors Vishal and Shekhar composed the music. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan deserves an award or at least a nomination for this song.

3. Baar Baar Dekho (Kaala Chashma):  Kaala Chashma  is originally composed by Prem Hardeep and recreated by Badshah, written by Amrik Singh and Kumaar and sung by Amar Arshi, Badshah & Neha Kakkar.  Check out Bollywood reaction videos on YouTube and it looks like our countrymen keep requesting foreigners to react on this song and therefore there are plenty of reaction videos for Kaala Chashma song on YouTube and the song has only received positive reviews from music fans across the world. Katrina dances decently but stiff, she ain't expressive like Madhuri, most of the time she has a poker face which really freaks us out. Loosen up Katrina and ejoy your dance. Siddharth Malhotra is Okayish. Both the actors aren't really good in the "Acting"department therefore we wonder what on earth did the makers think when they hired these two actors to play the lead roles in Baar Baar Dekho. Movie aise nikli ke ek baar bhi dekhne laayak nahi thi. Songs were good and this song is the best of all other songs in the Album.

2. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (Channa Mereya): The soulful Channa Mereya is sung by Arijit Singh with lyrics beautifully penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya and the song has been brought to life by Music Director Pritam .Pritam was accused of plagiarism wih the Bulleya song from the album. Forget Bulleya, this song is the soul of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Ranbir brings in life to this song and his brilliant acting will make you cry a river when you watch this song in the movie. This is why we all love Karan Johar movies, he brings us thoda high society wala masala with Bollywood tadka providing us with great entertainment and memorable songs. Channa Mereya is one such memorable song of KJO, it is undeniably one of the most beautiful compositions of this year.

1. Sanam Re (Title Song): You didn't expect this to be at this position, right? Believe it or not, this song ruled the charts for a very long time and a lotta people still listen to this song everyday.  Picturized beautifully on Pulkit Samrat, Yami Gautam and Urvashi Rautela, the song Sanam Re has been sung by Arijit Sing and composed and written by Mithoon, Sanam Re title song wins the competition for the best song of 2016. Of course everyone has a different taste but the 10 music albums that we have listed above do have original and memorable music that you will definitely listen to even after several years. Thank you for reading and we wish you all a very Happy New Year.
