Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati starring Deepika Padukone as Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor and Raja Ratan Sen, Ranveer Singh as Alauddin and Jim Sarbh as Malik Kafur, is all set to release on December 1, 2017. Let us have a look at the real story behind these famous characters.

Alauddin Khilji (Played by Ranveer Singh):  He was the ruler of Delhi Sultanate from 1296 through 1316. Alauddin Khilji successfully defended India against the Mongol invasions. Alaudddin married four times in his life. He was first married to Mallika-i-Jahan, then he married Mahru, then Kamaladevi and the 4th time he got married to Jhatyapali. Though he married many times, he was also physically attracted to his beautiful gay slave general Malik Kafur. Alauddin fell in love with Rani Padmini (Padmavati) and wanted to marry her anyhow.

Rani Padmini (Played by Deepika Padukone): Padmavati was an exceptionally beautiful princess of the Singhal kingdom (Sri Lanka). She became close friends with a talking parrot named Hiraman. Her father resented the parrot's closeness to his daughter, and ordered the bird to be killed. The parrot flew away to save its life, but was trapped by a bird catcher, and sold to a Brahmin. The Brahmin bought it to Chittor, where the local king Ratan Sen (Played by Shahid Kapoor) purchased it, impressed by its ability to talk. If SLB sticks to the original story then we hope he takes a real parrot instead of that stupid 2D animated horrible looking parrot seen in Rajshri productions' Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon'. As per the story books,  Padmini and other women committed Jauhar (Self immolation) to avoid falling in the enemy hands after the fall of their kingdom.

Ratnasimha (Played by Shahid Kapoor): It will be quite refreshing to see another main hero in SLB's film. It was getting too tiring to watch Ranveer Singh all the time in SLB's epic movies. So Shahid Kapoor plays the role of Ratnasimha (Also referred to as Ratan Singh and Ratan Sen in many books), a ruler of the Medapata (Mewar) kingdom. He ruled the Chittorgarh fort. As per the story in books, Ratnasimha (Shahid) is married to Padmavati but he gets killed by Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh) as he attacks Chittorgarh to obtain his Ratnasimha's wife Padmavati.

Malik Kafur (Played by Jim Sarbh):  Remember Jim Sarbh from the flop movie Raabta? Yes, the villain of Raabta is most likely to be seen as Malik Kafur, the eunuch army chief of Alauddin Khilji. Kafur was captured from the port city of Khambhat by Alauddin's general Nusrat Khan, during the 1299 invasion of Gujarat, and converted to Islam. After Alauddin's death, he tried to usurp the power by appointing Alauddin's son Shihab-ud-din Omar as a child puppet monarch. His rule ended shortly after, when he was assassinated on the orders of Alauddin's elder son Mubarak Khan.
