Hindi Diwas is being celebrated today. The day is celebrated on September 14 every year because, on this day in 1949, the Constituent Assembly of the country adopted Hindi as the official language of the Republic of India. The day serves to promote and propagate the Hindi language. On the day, programs are organized at educational, governmental and non-governmental organizations and other enterprises to promote the language.
Bollywood is also an integral source that makes an impactful promotion of the Hindi language that remains in memories of people forever – Hindi film industry. In its decades-old period of time, Bollywood has given us many masterpieces that narrate the importance of the language in an entertaining yet impactful way. #Chupke Chupke: The 1975 release Chupke Chupke is one of the top picks for Hindi Diwas. The film starring Dharmendra, Sharmila Tagore, Amitabh Bachchan, and others showed a story of a newly married couple. In the movie, Dharmendra was seen speaking in pure Hindi that confused his in-laws but tickled the funny bone of the audience. However, on the sideline of entertainment, the movie successfully inks the importance of the language on the minds of the viewers.
#Golmaal: The 1979 release Golmaal is another must-watch film on Hindi Diwas. In the film, Utpal Dutt puts up a tough condition for hiring employees who have proficiency in the Hindi language. #Namastey London: Though the Hindi film industry has seen a lot of changes in past decades, but Hindi language still has its separate importance in the storyline of movies. Released in 2007 with Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif and Rishi Kapoor in lead roles, the movie shows Akshay promoting the language and Indian culture in several scenes. #English Vinglish: This 2012 release starring Sri Devi is a tale of a home-bound woman who does not know English and how an overseas trip helps her to bring out the best in her. The strong script with tremendous acting of star cast makes it a must watch.
#Hindi Medium: This latest release starring Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar is a comedy-drama film. It is the story about the lives of a middle-class couple who wish to enter the likes of the elite. They believe that the way to make this happen would be through a high-class education in English for their young daughter and hence begins the tale.
