Born on January 11, 1969 in Delhi, Anu Agarwal grew up in Chennai. She started with modeling and then VJing for a small time before Mahesh Bhatt offered her a movie. 

Anu never dreamt of being a film star but Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt saw the star in her and pressurized her to act in films. Mahesh Bhat called her stating that he had written a script and if she doesn't do the film then he will not make it. Anu agreed and she debuted with Rahul Roy in Mahesh Bhatt's Ashiqui in 1990.

Aashiqui was released on 17 August, 1990 and it was directed by Mahesh Bhatt. Aashiqui turned out to be a blockbuster with the best music of 1990. The soundtrack album has been rated the one of the best in Indian Cinema. Aashiqui Music Unit Sold 1.50 crores. Aashiqui walked away with 4 Filmfare Awards for its music alone. 

Besides Aashiqui, Anu Agarwal also appeared in Bollywood movies like Khal Nayika and King Uncle. She also appeared in a Tamil Film Thiruda Thiruda. Here is her Filmography:

In the year 1999, Anu Agarwal met with a near fatal accident. She was treated at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. Anu doesn't recollect what had happened. She was driving a car and it crashed. In an interview, she revealed each and every limb and joint of her body had broken, she had no memory if she was alone or with someone. Anu Agarwal was in the state of Coma for almost 29 days. She woke up with her body half paralyzed and twisted. Her doctor had said that in such a condition, chances of recovery was weak. 

Anu didn't give up. Anu tried to walk, she tried and tried till she succeeded. During her period of recovery, she experienced all sorts of energy. Doctors were shocked to see her recovery.  She revived.

 

Anu Agarwal is single. She lives in Bihar and practices Yoga at the Bihar school of yoga in Munger. In 2015, Anu wrote an autobiography titled "Anusual- Memoir of a Girl who Came Back from the Dead" recounting her times in Bollywood and her tragic accident.
