Manna Dey

Singer Prabodh Chandra Dey, known by his stage name Manna Dey, was born on May 1, 1919. He made his debut in the film Tamanna in 1942. He shot to fame after singing  "Upar Gagan Bishal" composed by S D Burman. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri in 1971, the Padma Bhushan in 2005 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2007.

Manna Dey died of a cardiac arrest at 3:45 pm on 24 October, 2013 at Narayana Hrudayalaya hospital in Bengaluru, aged 94.
