Sanjay Dutt case : When, what happened ?.
April 1993 : Sanjay Dutt is arrested from Mumbai airport by the Crime Branch as he returns from Mauritis, on charges of possession of an AK-56 rifle, a 9 mm pistol and ammunition. It is learned that he later destroyed them.
May 1993 : He is released on bail.
November 1993 : Nearly eight months after the serial blasts, primary charge sheet running to more than 10,000 pages are filed against 189 accused including actor Sanjay Dutt.
July 1994 : He has to go to jail for the second time. The trial courts cancels his bail and is re-arrested.
October 1995 : Sanjay Dutt writes letter to Chief Justice for bail, after which Supreme Court him granted bail.He gets released from jail after staying for 12 months and 18 days.
July 1997 : Dutt has to go to jail for the third time again. This time he is released on 22 August after being in jail for 22 days. But after two months he had to go in jail again for the fouth time.
October 1997 : After going to jail, he stays there for one month and 8 days.Total timeline spent in jail till now is 17 months and 6 days.
November 2006 : The court finds Sanjay Dutt guilty under Arms Act but acquits him under TADA.
July 2007 : He is convicted and sentenced to six year jail term.
August 2007 : He is re-arrested and taken to Yerwada prison in Pune. He files Yachika in the Supreme court against the order.
November 2007 : He is granted bail by Supreme Court.
November 2011 : Supreme Court begins hearing of Sanjay Dutt and other accused.
March 2013 : Supreme Court sends Sanjay Dutt to five year in jail and asks him to surrender within four weeks.
April 2013 : Dutt’s advocate makes an oral request to court to allow the actor to directly surrender before the jail and not before the special court , which is rejected by the court.The Actor files for a review petition against the judgement of the apex court.
May 2013 : Apex court rejects the review petition of the actor. Dutt surrenders and is sent to Yerwada Prison in Pune.
October 2013 : Dutt is granted furlough for two weeks due to pain in leg. He returns to prison after the period.
December 2013 : Dutt is granted parole for 30 days and is further extended for 28 more days due to treatment of his wife.
August 2015 : Dutt is on 30 days parole for his nose surgery.
January 2016 : Due to good behaviour of Sanjay Dutt, the Maharashtra government decides to release him 8 months before the end of jail term.
25 February 2016 : Sanjay Dutt is released after completing his sentence under the Arms Act, from Yerewada jail of Pune after 42 months.
