Ramadan is the 9th month of the Islamic Calendar and is observed by Muslims all over the world as a month of fasting to commemorate the 1st revelation of the Quran (The holy book for Muslims) to Prophet Muhammad. Fasting during Ramadan is regarded as one of the 5 pillars of Islam (The other 4 being Faith, Prayer, Charity and Pilgrimage to Mecca).
India is a secular country with the 2nd highest Muslim population in the world. India has had a Muslim president as well. Most of the leading Indian actors are Muslims. India’s Oscar winning music director A.R. Rahman is also Muslim. Bollywood celebs took to Twitter to greet their fans on this auspicious occasion of Ramadan.
