Pihu and Mohalla Assi completed first weekend at the box office with a very poor collection, but the former leads the race. Also, Pihu being an extremely low budget film, its makers will be happy with the 3-day earnings.
Mohalla Assi has turned out to be yet another disaster for a notable flick in 2018. Though by and large, the year has been good for films, especially those which come with a different kind of a subject, this Sunny Deol starrer was always doomed since it was arriving without any noise whatsoever. The film brought in mere Rs. 90 lakhs, will hardly collect from here and would wrap up around the Rs. 2 crore mark. This means even the P&A cost of the film’s release won’t be recovered here; leave aside the money spent in production. For Sunny Deol, this is yet another huge commercial disappointment after Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se and Poster Boyz.
Pihu, which features just a 3-year-old child as the lead actor, had collected Rs 45 lakh at the Indian box office on its first day. Being a small budget film, it was released on a limited number of screens and did much better at the commercial circuits. Having been made at a budget of Rs 50 lakh, Pihu almost recovered the cost of production on opening day itself. The film had witnessed a little jump on the second day and had made a business of Rs 50 lakh at the domestic market.
With positive word of mouth, Pihu maintained the momentum on its day 3 (Sunday) as well. The thriller collected Rs 65 lakh, taking its first-weekend collection close to Rs 1.50 crore at the Indian box office, according to Box Office India. Pihu could recover at least some of its production investment from the theatrical business.
Pihu has clearly come up as the winner in this box office race, thanks to the positive reviews it got from critics and audience. Pihu is based on a shocking real-life incident.
