This time of the year we dress up, light beautiful diyas, burn some crackers, spread some joy and attend Diwali parties. Now we all know that there can’t be a celebration without Bollywood music. So let's go down memory lane and give you a list of songs that will set you in the mood for the festival of lights.

#1. Title Track (Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, 2001): Karan Johar movies have always been about family and bonds. The movie begins with this song, where the house is filled with lights and people as they are celebrate Diwali while mother Jaya Bachchan is waiting for her son Shah Rukh Khan to come back home from abroad. The rhythm, dance and the amazing depiction of the festival brings it to our list of our favourite festive songs.
#2. Albela Sajan (Bajirao Mastani, 2016): This is a song to celebrate the victory of Bajirao as his kingdom is waiting for their warrior king. The song shows how everyone is happy and proud and are decorating the whole palace with rangoli and lights. Although there is a similar number in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, this one is a heavier one with a royal touch.

Shehar Ki Pariyon Ke Peeche (Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander, 1992): The song from is all about desi costumes, crackers and shows Aamir Khan’s brother Mamik Singh confessing his feelings to his childhood crush. The film features Aamir Khan, Ayesha Jhulka, Mamik Singh, Deepak Tijori and Kulbhushan Kharbanda in the lead roles.
#4. Kaise Diwali Manaye Lala (Paigham, 1959): Johnny Walker in his inimitable funny style takes a sarcastic dig at the economic situation of the country at that time. He compares the festival of Diwali to the empty pockets signifying 'Diwala' (Bankruptcy). Sung by Mohammad Rafi, the song is one of the most played numbers during the festivities of Deepavali.
#5. Deep Diwali Ke Jhuthe (Jugnu, 1973): Dharmendra and Kishore Kumar's jugalbandi makes this number immortal. The picturisation which shows how children from the less privileged background strive to celebrate the festival of Diwali, evokes a millions emotions.
