The Great Indian Dysfunctional Family Web Series Review

The series is about a family that as the name suggests is dysfunctional. It stars well known names like Kay Kay Menon, Barun Sobti, Shriswara and Swaroop Sampath, who makes her return to acting after almost a decade.

Like the name suggests, it actually is The Great Indian Dysfunctional Family. Barun Sobti and Kay Kay Menon play brothers, Samar and Vikram Ranaut, in the series. Vikram is the older one and Samar, the younger one. The series has a quick screenplay and immediately delves into why the family is dysfunctional. Also, most of the cliches are ticked in this one. So, we have the weed smoking, the girls drinking, the lesbian kiss, so on and so forth.

Samar returns home to Coonoor from Mumbai after eight years, with his wife, Sonali (played by Eisha Chopra). Vikram is a bitter, old army officer who had to resign after he got injured during a mission. His wife, Geeta (played by Shriswara), is constantly compensating for his dominating, irrational ways. Things take an ugly turn when Samar returns home for some time. The first episode itself has all the elements needed to make an entertaining family drama, but this one is so twisted you’ll actually start loving your family.

The Great Indian Dysfunctional Family manages to keep you hooked to your phones till you finish watching the entire series. Every episode reveals a secret that will leave you stunned. The humour element is used at the right places and for the right amount of time. Kay Kay Menon and Barun Sobti’s “bromance” is hilarious to watch! Both the actors have delivered mind-blowing performances in the series. Not to mention, the ladies in the series are no less. Sanaya Pithawalla, who plays Vikram and Geeta’s daughter Aditi, is another character you will fall in love with. She is rebellious and how!

Vikram and Samar’s mother, Premlata (played by Swaroop Sampat), is exactly how the oldest women in the family are shown onscreen these days. She has a helper who not only takes care of everything she needs but also keeps all her secrets and gives her the latest gossip. She also gets high four times a day; she makes this special chai that I’m sure a lot of you might want. Though the end of the show is quite predictable, it is worth binge-watching.
