JP Dutta's Paltan: The war drama is based on the 1967 clashes between Indian military forces and the Chinese Army at Nathu-La and Cho La. The battle took place on the border alongside Sikkim, which was an Indian protectorate at the time. Paltan is scheduled to be released on September 7.

Paltan is Dutta’s first film in 12 years. His last release was Umrao Jaan (2006). Dutta has previously directed the war films Border (1997) and LOC Kargil (2003).

Abhishek Bachchan was all set to work in JP Dutta's multi-starer movie Paltan but at the last moment, everything went haywire. Just before the shooting was to start, Abhishek due to some unknown reasons backed out of Paltan leaving his fans anxious. A source earlier stated that Abhishek was constantly worried about Sonu Sood getting more screen space than him. Even after JP convincing him, he separated himself from the movie. When recently, the actor was questioned about the same, he said, ''Sadly, things did not work out for me, and I couldn’t be a part of the film. But he’s the best, and I wish him best luck. I’m sure he will make a fantastic movie.'

Other upcoming Bollywood war movies include the Akshay Kumar-starrer Kesari, on the 1897 Battle of Saragarhi between soldiers from the British Indian Army and Afghani tribesmen, and Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Panipat, starring Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Kapoor, and Kirti Sanon. Gowarikar’s film is on the Third Battle of Panipat between Maratha troops and Afghan forces.

Produced by Zee Studios and JP Dutta Films, Paltan has an ensemble cast that includes Jackie Shroff, Arjun Rampal, Sonu Sood, Gurmeet Choudhary, Harshvardhan Rane and Siddhant Kapoor. Slated for worldwide release on 7th September 2018.
