Directed by Ravi Udyawar, Mom stars Sridevi in the lead role. Sridevi returns to the big screen after 2012's English Vinglish. The movie also stars Pakistani actors Sajal Ali and Adnan Siddiqui.
Plot: Sridevi's step-daughter is raped by a gang of high profile goons and Momma Sridevi goes out to take revenge cleverly.
What we liked about the movie:
Sridevi: We loved watching Sridevi on the big screen and we are glad that she selected a role that suited her age. Her presence itself enlightened the screen and there was this WOW factor that Sridevi had in the entire movie. We don't need to talk about her acting skills for she did a splendid job. There were a few scenes where she was just awesome, esp in the hospital scene where she meets her step-daughter and figures out that she was raped.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui: He plays an innocent looking but smart detective. out there to help Sridevi take revenge - Hollywood style. He had a small but important role to play and did a beautiful job.
Sajal Ali: Pakistani actress Sajal Ali does justice to her role and of all the Pakistani actors that we have seen recently, she is the best. While Mahira looked stunning in Raees, her acting skills weren't upto the mark. Sajal Ali will impress you with her portrayal of a rape victim who doesn't accept her step-mom till the very end.
The Rape Scene: Very nicely picturized scene without any vulgarity. The aerial shot of the moving car and the background music will make you feel really bad for the victim.
What could have been better?
- The Pace of the movie could have been much faster. When Sridevi ain't on the screen, the movie appears to be quite dull. They could have even got rid of that boring climax song shot in Georgia (They called it Kufri).
- Adnaan Siddiqui looks too young to be paired with Sridevi. They could have taken a more mature actor opposite Sridevi. Adnaan ain't the best of actors, and he didn't have a meaty role either. He was just about average.
- The revenge killing techniques were taken from different Hollywood movies. One of the killing scenes reminded us of the Hollywood movie 'I spit on your grave'.
- The ending was so predictable. Akshaye Khanna warning Sridevi, "Kanoon ko haath mein mat lo" will leave you agitated with Bollywood style of climax. The villain reaching Georgia (Kufri) in no time was such a WTF scene!
Overall Mom is entertaining. If only the ending was different, the movie could have been more entertaining. We give it 3.5 Stars.
