Bahubali 2: The Conclusion Movie Review

Brilliant story telling coupled with decent CGI that defies logic in the ending scene that seems heavily inspired by Clash Royale's Goblin Barrel card.

Why did Katappa Kill Bahubali? Didn't we all want to know the answer to this question? Since 28th April 2017, Indians have happily spent more than Rs.1500 crore to get the answer to this question. I was also one of those curious ones who wanted to get the answer asap. So i walked into the cinema hall hoping for nothing but the best. This time i said No to my caramel popcorn for I wanted to totally focus on the movie and spend less time on eating. The movie started and like many, even i turned on my Whatsapp and shared in my friends group "Main bahubali 2 dekh raha hoon....sabko bata doonga katappa ne bahubali ko kyu maaraa" and i was thrown out of the group in no time because all my friends wanted to spend Rs. 200 to get the answer. Ok, so back to the movie now.

Bahubali 2 begins where the first one ends, this taklu (Sathyaraj as Katappa) narrating how he ended up killing our Hero. Bahubali (Prabhas) defeats Kalakeyas and is declared the future king of Mahishmati and the poker face Bhallaladeva (Rana Daggubati) is declared as the commander-in-chief. Their momma dearest Rajmata Sivagami Devi (Ramya Krishnan) gets busy in doing what she is supposed to do. Being an Indian mom, she starts finding her Bahooooooo. She also instructs Kattappa and Bahubali to tour the kingdom in disguise to understand its current state and its people.

This is where the fun begins and the best part of the movie starts now. Amarendra meets Devasena (Anushka Shetty) - who happens to be the Princess of Kuntala Kingdom and the sister of the King of Kuntala. Amarendra pretends to be a commoner and the whole episode between Kumara Varma (Subbaraju), Bahubali and Devasena is the highlight of the movie. Kattappa tries to play a comic role here and he succeeds a bit but the Hindi dubbed dialogues makes him sound so irritating esp when he sings one poor dubbed hindi Loree for Bahubali. Absolutely pathetic.

In one scene, Katappa asks Bahubali to explain the meaning of Love. Bahubali while explaining the meaning of love to katappa asks him to look outside the window and notice the love birds (looked like parrots) sitting on a tree with the moon glowing in the background and says, "yeh Sheetal chandni mein baithe huay un do chakor ki aur dekho."

I was like, did you just call them "Chakor"? Mr Bahubali, Chukar Partridge or Chakor just cannot fly. Its more like a domestic hen mostly found in the mountainous regions of Pakistan and it prefers to run over flying so we wonder how that pair of so-called Chakors managed to fly and sit so high up on the tree. These Hindi dubbing really kills the fun sometimes.

Moving on, can't tell you the entire story from here as it would spoil the fun if you haven't watched it yet, but post Anushka and Prabhas falling in love, the entire drama begins. How Rana is declared the king and how Katappa kills Bahubali is worth watching.

Everything went on smoothly and we loved the CGI in most of the movie. Even with the budget constraints, the CGI done was brilliant, esp. in the mad elephant scene, the battle scene where Bahubali prevents Devasena's kingdom and in the owl messenger scene, the CGI was perfect. The places where the CGI was total crap was in the song picturised on the ship, fake looking water, fake clouds, cartoonish horses in the clouds, it looked pathetic and fake, we were like yeah yeah this looks so so fake..move on to the next scene. Sab kachra kar daala cgi ne yahan par.

Logic wise, everything seemed perfect except in the ending scene which seemed heavily inspired by Goblin Barrel - an epic card in the mobile game called Clash Royale. These men join hands with a Dhaal in the other hand, form a circle and use coconut trees as elastic rubber bands and when they fall in Mahishmati kingdom, they start fighting immediately; gravity doesn't affect their bones and life, they just fall as if they were made of rubber and nothing happens to them even after falling from such great heights. I pinched myself and said "Babaaa relax..yeh south indian movie hai...anything is possible, logic gaya bhaad mein". The ending seemed a bit mediocre because of poor CGI and logic having no role to play.

Acting wise, I would rate Ramya Krishnan as the best of the lot. Her character was fierce and she said a lot without uttering even a word in many scenes and the scenes where she spoke, boy! those were the epic scenes in the movie. Her eyes! Boy!! Khatarnaak is the word!!

Anushka Shetty was also amazing to watch, esp in the scene where she is brought as an accused in the court of Bhallaladeva. She played a fearless bindaas girl and we loved it. She calls a spade a spade and doesn't mince her words in the whole movie. We loved her.

Prabhas was good esp as Amarendra, I didn't like him as Mahendra Bahubali, he looked a bit goofy and I am a fan of strong characters, not the weak ones.

Katappa was the best and waah kya dialogue bolta hai, esp this one - "Kutta hoon na soongh liya". Katappa's performance was Jhakaas! But Katappa ji, dobara lori mat gaanaa...plzzzz..

Bijjaladeva (Nassar) as a physically challenged evil man was poisonous to the core. Loved his acting. Looola bhai, you rock bro!

The only actor who, in my opinion, didn't do justice to the role, was Rana Daggubati. He had a poker face expression all the time and I understand he ain't the best of actors that we have. He looked good and has a great body though. I am glad he spoke less warna it would have been so torturous.

Next time S. S. Rajamouli should focus on having the best music as well. The songs were absolutely average for a movie of this stature, however the background music impressed me a lot.

We are proud that Indian movies have reached this stage of production. Bahubali 2: The Conclusion is undeniably one of the best movies of all time. Kudos to S. S. Rajamouli for bringing glory to our nation. We hope to see more epic movies in the coming years.
