One of the very few female oriented movies made in Bollywood with a terrible second half that totally negates the effective first half. Read more..

Produced & Directed by A.R Murugadoss, Akira is a remake of the 2011 Tamil movie titled 'Mouna Guru'. The movie stars Sonakshi Sinha as Akira, Konkana Sen Sharma and Anurag Kashyap in the lead roles.

The first half of the movie is extremely engaging and you will definitely enjoy it but the second half is absolutely uninteresting and will totally negate the first half which kept your interest.

The movie revolves around a girl named Akira Sharma living in Jodhpur, trained in combat as a child and then sent to a remand home for attacking an acid thrower. As she grows up, she comes to Mumbai on her brother's request to study further and gets involved in a messy crime case that Anurag Kashyup is involved in.

The movie is deeply layered with a well though out story. It is more like a masala action movie and we are glad that Sonakshi Sinha has chosen a sensible role this time instead of playing just a random filler in Bollywood movies. Anurag Kashyap also does a decent job. Sonakshi Sinha appears a bit awkward in her high octane action sequences. She looks a bit old for a college student. Her role is good and she does a decent job though. Anurag Kashyap as ACP is awesome. He is so menacing that you would love to hate him. Interestingly he has more screen space than Sonakshi Sinha. Konkana Sen Sharma didn't have a big role but she was decent in what she played.

Akira has novelty as we don't really see women oriented action films in Bollywood but this one tries too hard to be an action drama. There are twists and turns in the movie but all of them are very predictable. The film is very stereotypical. The film is engaging in the first half but the second half is too stretched and a yawnfest. Had the screenplay been better, the movie would have been more interesting. If you like action movies then give it a try and others can watch it for Anurag Kashyap's performance.
