In begining of 90's, Alisha Chinai was slowly rising the charts as the Indian pop queen and setting feet feet in the film industry, with chartbuster hits like Made In India and she was simultaneously singing for Hindi films too. Anu Malik too was on the rise, with all his songs hitting the bulls eye and getting great revenues for the film teams. It was then that Alisha made a shocking allegation against Anu. The singer filed sexual harassment charges against the composer and accused him of sexual misconduct. She claimed that Anu had molested her and things turned ugly when she demanded Rs 26.60 lakhs as compensation. The matter was settled after a few years and it was back to business as usual for Malik. He continued to prey on singers, especially newcomers who approached him with dreams of getting a break.

The Anu-Alisha spat took an ugly turn when Alisha demanded INR 2660000 (approx. Dhs153,400) as damages. But a defiant Anu vehemently denied the charges. Meanwhile, rumours of Anu’s wife being miffed with him were rife. He tried to explain to her that this was just a publicity stunt by Alisha. Though not much is known on Anu’s wife’s take on this, there were definitely some fights in the Malik household during this phase. In spite of all the drama that was caused, what happened next was shocking! All Alisha got in return was a defamation suit worth INR 2 crore (approx. Dhs1,153,110) that Anu filed against her. Malik had vehemently denied all charges back then.

And then, Alisha and Anu swore to never work with each other again. But strangely, 6 years later, in 2002, Alisha sang a song for Anu in Ishq Vishq, which was the launch pad of Shahid Kapoor. She even appeared on Indian Idol as a judge with him, years later.
