Sampooran Singh Kalra known popularly by his pen name Gulzar is arguably the best poet and lyricist in India. On his birthday, we bring you the best Bollywood songs written by Gulzar.
Gulzar was born on 18 August, 1934 in Dina, Pakistan (British India). His family moved to India after partition. Gulzar started as a lyricist in 1963 (Bandini) and later directed movies like Aandhi, Mausam, Kirdaar, Maachis & Hu Tu Tu.
He won his first National Film Awards for Best Screenplay for Koshish. Koshish starring Sanjeev Kumar and Jaya Bhaduri is one of the best movies in the history of Bollywood. The movie depicts a deaf and mute couple and their conflicts, pain and struggle to carve out a niche for themselves in a desensitized society.
Gulzar won his second National Film Award for his movie Mausam in 1975. Gulzar won the award for Best Feature Film. He was the director of Mausam. He went on to win many more National and Filmfare awards for his work in movies.
