Soorma is a biopic on Indian hockey player Sandeep Singh. Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh, who plays Sandeep in the film, has yet again proved his mettle as an artist and has left the audience and critics impressed with his act. Despite competition from Sanju, Soorma has been able to hold its own at the box office with Rs 8.25 crore collection in two days.
The film collected Rs 3.20 crore on its opening day and showed an upward trend on Saturday with Rs 5.05 crore earnings. Now, one can expect the film to maintain the growth even on Sunday. 'Soorma' is however expected to gain momentum slowly. Punjabi singer and actor, Diljit Dosanjh, has been receiving love from all quarters for his earnest portrayal of Sandeep Singh. In the special screening that was organized by the team, Bollywood celebs like Shabana Azmi, Divya Dutta among others had given a thumbs up to the film.
'Soorma' is clearly facing stiff competition from Marvel's 20th film 'Ant-Man And The Wasp'. The Hollywood release of this week - Ant-Man And The Wasp - has shown better performance at the box office than Soorma. The film raked in a collection figure of Rs. 5.50 crores.
Diljit Dosanjh plays former India hockey captain Sandeep Singh in a film that is more a love story than sports biopic. The film showcases a love story than a sports biopic. With 131-minute duration, Soorma presents Sandeep as the ultimate boy scout. A tinge of reality wouldn't have hurt.
