Although released during non-festive and non-holiday season, the curiosity surrounding the ups and downs in the life of Sanjay Dutt and an uncanny resemblance in the looks and body language of Ranbir Kapoor with the troubled Bollywood star worked in favor of the film in the opening weekend when it grossed over Rs 120 crore.
What is also working in favor of Sanju at the box office is little competition from sports biopic Soorma and the Hollywood superhero film Ant-Man and the Wasp, which released on Friday. Sanju joins Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Tiger Zinda Hai, both starring Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan’s PK (₹ 340 crore) and Dangal (₹ 387 crores) in the ₹ 300 crore club. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, sits pretty at the top with ₹ 510 crore in box-office collections.
Rajkumar Hirani’s latest film Sanju is still going strong in its third week. The film has entered the Rs 300 crore club. Sanju is a biopic on Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt and Ranbir Kapoor essays his role in the film. The movie also stars Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal, Manisha Koirala, Dia Mirza, Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Jim Sarbh.
Ranbir Kapoor's Sanju is enjoying yet another major record up its sleeves. In just nine days, the film has now managed to surpass 'Kick' And 'Chennai Express' collections records. With the movie's entry Top-10 All-Time Highest Bollywood grossers. It is now competing with the best of the best and is racing up the charts.
