There's no stopping for Sanju! The biopic of Bollywod legend Sanjay Dutt starring Ranbir Kapoor has 'demolished' the box office records with 120.06 crore collection over the weekend. Sanju is leading in terms of weekend collections followed by Padmavaat, Race3, Baaghi2 and Raid.
With the latest offering, director Rajkumar Hirani has once again proved his mettle as a master story teller. The movei has also given amazing comeback sort to Ranbir Kapoor, who had not seen much of success at the box office. With Sanju, the actor has hit the bullseye and got the smashing hit that he was looking for, post Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
Though Sanju has becomes the top opening weekend grosser of all time for a Bollywood film, it missed the chance of beating Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (Hindi), which made Rs 128 crore in its opening weekend. But it wasn't a Bollywood film. Not just the opening weekend, Sanju has also created a record of earning highest single day collection all time, beating Baahubali 2: The Conclusion as well.
While Baahubali 2: The Conclusion held the record previously as it had made Rs 46.50 crore, Sanju has recorded Rs 46.71 crore. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the figures of Sanju, he wrote, "#Sanju sets the BO on ... Gets #JaaduKiJhappi from the audience... Collects ₹ 46.71 cr on Sun, MIND-BOGGLING... Has an EXCEPTIONAL ₹ cr+ opng weekend... Emerges HIGHEST OPENING WEEKEND of 2018... Fri 34.75 cr, Sat 38.60 cr, Sun 46.71 cr. Total: ₹ 120.06 cr. India biz."
Hirani’s Sanju is a tale of a persecuted boy who just needed an excuse to blow up his life. The man shown in the movie is always running scared of his disciplinarian, Gandhian dad, of losing his mother to a terminal illness, of the toxic climate that the Babri Masjid blasts brought, of just about everything. For those who don’t know Dutt, this movie works as the story of a wayward child who puts his father through hell without realising it. It shows you the callous side of a spoilt brat who indulged his excesses. It’s a tale of repentance and is in equal measure a story of valour and strength. All battles are not fought at the border; some need to overcome their inner demons on a daily basis to emerge victorious.
Ranbir Kapoor's latest film Sanju has been ruling the box office since the day of its release. The Sanjay Dutt biopic has done exceedingly well. Sanju has collected a sum of Rs 73.35 crore till saturday. And predictions are , with Sunday's collections movie will join the Rs 100 in the 1st weekend.
Sanju is another gem in Ranbir Kapoor's repertoire, but the same can't be said about Rajkumar Hirani. There's a lot missing, but even then, this is still an incredible story of a man and a movie star who made massive mistakes, walked through fire, survived it and lived one heck of a life.
Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Sanju has released today worldwide on over 4000 screen, being the second biggest film to release after Salman Khan's Race 3. According to trade pundits, Sanju is expected to earn Rs 30 crore on opening day and cross the Rs 100 crore mark in the first weekend itself.
