> Mukesh was born in Delhi (India) in the year 1923 on 22nd July to Zorawar Chand Mathur, an engineer, and Chand Rani (mother). He was the sixth in a family of ten children.
> His first job was with the Department of Public Works in Delhi. As a hobby, he also experimented with voice recordings during those days.
> Before making a career as a Playback singer in Hindi cinema, Mukesh first made a acting debut in the film ‘Nirdosh’ in the year 1941. He also sang the song “Dil Hi Bujha Hua Ho To” for the movie.
> He got his break as a playback singer in 1945 with the film “Pehli Nazar”. Post which, he has sung around 1,300 songs.
> The legendary singer breathed his last on August 27, 1976, aged 53 years. He died of a heart attack in Detroit, Michigan, US, where he had gone to perform in a concert. The entire country was shocked of his sudden demise. Raj Kapoor said “I have lost my voice”.
