Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati was to release to December 1, 2017, however nationwide protests by hardline groups like Karni Sena ensured the delay in release. Even the CBFC didn't certify the movie making it difficult for the movie to hit the screens.
However, it seems that Padmavati may finally see light of the day as the makers prepare for a possible February release. Padmavati could hit theatres on February 9 after a schedule sent out by distributors to overseas chains like US/Canada mentioned this date for the film’s release, according to a Box Office India report.
Padmavati tells us the story of Rani Padmini who burnt herself to death when her fort was invaded by Alauddin Khilji. Karni Sena is protesting because the movie shows Rajputs defeated by a Muslim ruler Alauddin Khilji and that they also claim that there is a dream love making sequence between Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji. Ranveer Singh plays Alauddin Khilji in the movie.
