Born Jagmohan Singh Dhiman in Rajasthan’s Ganganagar on February 8, 1941, to a Sikh family, Jagjit Singh was always interested in learning music and used to sing gurbani in gurudwaras from a young age. However, his father Sardar Amar Singh Dhiman, a government surveyor, wanted him to become an engineer or an IAS officer, and sent him to Jalandhar in 1959.

Jagjit Singh delivered various classic ghazals that are evergreen. Even though he passed away on October 10, 2011, thanks to Anubhav Sinha, we again got to hear his heavenly voice in the recreated version of Koi Fariyaad for Tum Bin 2. On the occasion of his 7th death anniversary, here’s a look at the top Jagjit Singh songs which made us fall in love with ghazals.
