Rajkummar Rao's 'Newton' will be India's official entry for Oscars 2018. Newton is a story of Newton Kumar, a rookie government clerk who is sent on election duty to a naxal-controlled town in the conflict-ridden jungles of Chhattisgarh, India. Faced with the apathy of security forces and the looming fear of guerrilla attacks by communist rebels, he tries his best to conduct free and fair voting despite the odds stacked against him. The movie stars Rajkummar Rao as Newton Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, Sanjay Mishra and Raghubir Yadav. Directed by Amit V. Masurkar, the movie failed to perform at the box-office, but received positive reviews from critics. It has been now selected as the Indian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards.
