Movies Turned Down By Kareena Kapoor
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was released in 1999 with Aishwarya Rai in the lead role. Ash won the Best Actress Filmfare award for the movie, however she was not the fist choice of SLB. He wanted to cast Kareena Kapoor for the role of Nandini in HDDCS. Somewhow things didn't work out and Ash bagged the role.
Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai
Bebo was to make her Bollywood debut with Rakesh Roshan's Kaho Na Pyaar Hai. At that point in time, Kareena's mother Babita used to take her decisions. Babita was keen to launch her daughter in Bollywood and when Rakesh Roshan approached Kareena, Babita was more than happy. Kareena even went for a day's shoot of Kaho Na Pyaar Hai at Versova, Mumbai. It was for a song. The next day Rakesh Roshan received a call from Babita stating that Kareena was more comfortable shooting for scenes first and then the songs. Rakesh Roshan assured her that Kareena was just fine, but Babita was adamant that he shoot for the scenes first and scrap the shoot of the song. After a heated argument, Babita ended the call by saying that they would prefer to opt out of the film. Rakesh Roshan signed up a newcomer Ameesha Patel for his movie and the movie became a huge hit. It was later found that Babita decided to opt out of the movie for a more lucrative offer for Kareena, which in this case was J.P. Dutta's Refugee. Refuge bombed at the box office. Abhishek Bachchan was declared a flop actor and failed to make a mark in Bollywood. Kareena however was unaffected as she went on to become one of the top actresses in Bollywood. In the end, it is the talent that matters. Nepotism may have helped Abhishek Bachchan bag the big role, but the lack of talent wiped him off the Bollywood radar. Amisha Patel, however was fantastic in her debut act.
Black
Sanjay Leela Bhansali was always keen to work with beautiful Kareena Kapoor and after losing the chance to work together in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, SLB had offered the 2005 movie 'Black' to Kareena Kapoor. For some reasons, Kareena turned down the offer and the role went to Rani Mukherjee. Black went on to win 2 National Film Awards. Rani Mujherjee won the best actress Filmfare Awards for her role.
Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela
Kareena walked out of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Ram Leela due to dates and monetary issues. In one of her interviews, Kareena said, "I walked out a week ago. I had allotted 100 days for the shooting in August as per contract but Mr Bhansali wanted more days to shoot. My managers Reshma Shetty and Zahid Khan thought about it and decided it wasn't possible as I have signed three new big films for next year. The shooting for one of them begins in October immediately after the release of Heroine. I've also given 32 days of promotional time for Heroine as it's a very special film for me. That wouldn't have been possible if I had given those dates to Ram Leela. I am extremely ambitious and very career-oriented and my personal life has never come in the way of of my career. My not doing this film has nothing to do with my wedding. Everyone knows Saif and me have been together in a relationship for the last five years and such stories about me being replaced because I am getting married are floated by PR machineries on an overdrive! So people, just back off and let me focus on my work". Ram Leela fetched Deepika Padukone the Best Actress Filmfare Award.
Chennai Express
Yet another blockbuster turned down by Kareena Kapoor. We wonder how Kareena chooses her films. She is quite ok playing a side role like the one she played in Bajrangi Bhaijaan or Udta Punjab, but ain't happy selecting the lead roles. Weird! Absolutely Weird choice of movies Kareena! Chennai Express happens to be one of the biggest blockbusters of Deepika Padukone. Made on a budget of ₹115 crore, Chennai Express collected ₹423 crore at the Box-office.
Queen
Queen was first offered to Kareena Kapoor but she turned down the offer for reasons best known to her. Thank you Kareena for turning down Queen! :) Because of Kareena's rejection, India got an amazingly talented actress - Kangana Ranaut. At the 62nd National Film Awards, the film won the awards for Best Hindi Film and Best Actress for Ranaut. At the 60th Filmfare Awards ceremony, Queen won a leading six awards out of a leading 13 nominations: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress for Ranaut, Best Background Score for Amit Trivedi, Best Cinematography and Best Editing.
Bajirao Mastani
Bajirao Mastani was originally planned keeping Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor in mind, but they kept on delaying and finally SLB had to cast Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. The movie went on to win all the major awards that year.
