Miss India 2017: Our Favorite For The Crown

For the first time, each State of India will have its own girl competing for the coveted Femina Miss India crown. We pick our Top 3 for Miss India 2017. The winner will represent India at the Miss World 2017 pageant in China later this year.

When it comes to pageantry, Miss Universe and Miss World are the two major crowns that every country vies for. Femina Miss India used to be a single pageant that sent contestants to Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss International Pageants, and had an amazing track record till 2000, with a dream run in the 90s. India has won Miss World 5 times since the inception of the Miss World beauty pageant, with its last winner being Priyanka Chopra, who was crowned back in 2000. India has won Miss Universe only twice, in 1994 and 2000. Femina Miss India pageant no longer sends its winner to the Miss Universe pageant, instead its sister pageant, Miss Diva, sends the winner to compete at the Miss Universe pageant.

This year, the Miss World 2017 Beauty Pageant will be held in China. The contestants will arrive in China early November and the finals will be held in December. India has not been performing well at the Miss World pageant after 2000. The only time India came close to the crown was back in 2008 when Parvathy Omanakuttan became the first runner-up.

Almost 17 years after Priyanka Chopra won the crown for India, Femina Miss India decided to go Miss USA way, and let contestants from each states compete for the coveted crown.

Femina Miss India organization must understand that the Miss World pageant doesn't give a damn about the communication skills of the girl. This is evident from the past 5 winners. Femina has been focusing too much on the oratory skills of the girl and royally ignoring the facial beauty. The reason why Ash, Diana and Priyanka won was primarily because of their stunning beauty and personality. Yukta won because she looked pretty and spoke well. But that era is gone now, Eric Morley is dead and Julia doesn't give a damn about how the girls speak. Miss World must look good, and the same goes for the Miss Universe Pageant.

We had a look at the contestants pics posted by Femina on their official website and the only face that stood out of the rest was that of Aditi Hundia. She is representing Rajasthan today. We are not sure how she speaks nor do we bother about it because she ain't going for a "Miss I speak Well" contest. She is going for Miss World and has the face that can even put the likes of Veneuzela, Colombia and Puerto Rico to shame. If she is sent to the Miss World pageant, India will have a very high possibility of winning the 6th Miss World crown. Let us hope that sense prevails and Femina selects a girl who has all the potential to get India back in the big league in the world of beauty pageants.

A point to be noted here is that the viewership of both Miss Universe and Miss World Pageant is declining. Most of us in India do not watch these pageants. Indians don't give a damn about any pageant, because now in the 21st century we have better things to be proud about, be it our Economy, Bollywood, Democracy, Software Industry or the Space Industry. Sadly, there are some tiny nations, who consider these pageants as their only claim to fame, Philippines being one of them. The country is filled with crazy fans who bash other nationalities on their pageant forums. Miss World and Miss Universe organizations have realized that the only country that cares about these pageants is The Philippines. Therefore, Miss World and Miss Universe organizations have been ensuring a placement for the Philippines in the Top 5 and even crowning them. Miss Universe went a step further by faking an erroneous crowning and then de-throning the girl in a jiffy and crowning The Philippines in 2015. Let us hope we get to see a fair competition, at least in Miss World this time.
