Khazana", the ghazal festival in aid of cancer and thalassemia patients, will be held in the city on July 27 and 28. Ghazal Maestro Pankaj Udhas is closely associated with the initiative.
Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA) and Parents' Association Thalassemic Unit Trust (PATUT), Mumbai, have been organising the annual fund raising event. Udhas is the president of the PATUT. The noted singer said that the bone marrow treatment cures the child of the genetically-transmitted disorder. Pankaj Udhas said the initiative for event has enabled bone marrow transplant for 200 children in the last few years.
The veteran singer saidaround 5 per cent of one lakh children screened for Thalasemia Minor disorder were found positive. Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder in which the body makes an abnormal form of hemoglobin. Thalassemia minor is a less serious form of the disorder.
The artist line up this year would be Anup Jalota, Talat Aziz, Rekha Bharadwaj, Richa Sharma, Sudeep Banerjee,a special act by Mame Khan and afusion curated by Kaushiki Chakravarty, Rakesh Chaurasia, Purbayan Chaterjee, Deepak Pandit and Ojas Adhiya. Udhas said the proceeds of the July 27-28 event would be used towards continued care and rehabilitation of patients suffering from cancer and thallasemia.
