Karisma started her film career at the age of 15. She was laughed off for the thick eyebrows she had in her initial films. She made her debut in 1991 with the Harish, who was from down South in movie Prem Qaidi. The movie did not garner enough audience views. But later in 1996, the movie 'Raja Hindustani' changed her fate. While the makeover of her looks were made for the film, the kissing scene in the movie with Aamir became very popular at that time.

Karisma was known for her flawless skin, pink lips and bushy eyebrows when she started her career. But the actress underwent a huge transformation in her looks and appeal over the years. Karisma has won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for the film Dil To Pagal Hai (1997). She was also offered films like Asoka The Great and Talaash, which were later taken up by her younger sister Kareena Kapoor. Karisma also turned down Bride and Prejudice before the role went to Aishwarya Rai.
