Gold is expected to earn about Rs 10 crore on Friday, which was a holiday in many parts of the country due to Parsi New Year and former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s death. The final numbers are expected in a few hours. The Reema Kagti film is expected to increase its earnings over the approaching weekend. Till Thursday, Gold’s box office collection stood at Rs 33.25 crore. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh had tweeted earlier, “#Gold witnessed a decline on Thu... Biz should gain momentum from today onwards... Plexes hold the key... Wed 25.25 cr, Thu 8 cr. Total: ₹ 33.25 cr. India biz.”
Gold has largely got good reviews, which was reflected in its massive total on the opening day, also a personal record for Akshay Kumar. While trade is banking on the film to sprint into Rs 100 crore club, a lot depends on how much it earns over the next two days.
Gold is being seen as Akshay’s Kumar’s eighth hit in a row after Pad Man (Rs 78.22 crore), Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Jolly LLB 2 (Rs 117 crore), Rustom (Rs 127.49 crore), Housefull 3 (Rs 109.14 crore), Airlift (Rs 128.1 crore) and Singh Is Bliing (Rs 89.95 crore). Directed by Kagti an starring Mouni Roy, Amit Sadh, Vineet Singh and Kunal Kapoor, Gold is inspired by India winning its first gold medal as a free country at 1948 Olympics.
