Dilip Kumar (94) Is Doing Well - Says Saira Banu

Yesteryear actress Saira Banu has assured fans that her 94 year old husband, Dilip Kumar, is at home and doing well.

Fans of Bollywood legend Dilip Kumar need not be sad for his wife Saira Banu has assured that he is at home and doing well. There were rumours that the 94 year old actor was not keeping well. Saira Banu took to Dilip Kumar's official Twitter account to give an update about his health:

"By the grace of God, Dilip Sahab is at home and doing well. God has been very kind. Sahab believes that to be surrounded by family and friends who love him unconditionally is therapy by itself. Sahab is blessed with the prayers and love of his millions of fans, admirers, friends and well wishers. Dilip Sahab himself will be back on twitter soon, Insha'Allah."

The real name of Dilip Kumar is Muhammad Yusuf Khan and he was born in Peshawar, Pakistan on December 11, 1922. Dilip Kumar's father, Lala Ghulam Sarwar, was a landlord and fruit merchant who owned orchards in Peshawar and Deolali (in Maharashtra, India). Dilip Kumar was schooled at Barnes School, Deolali. Devika Rani requested to change his name from Yousuf to Dilip Kumar, and later cast him in a lead role for the film Jwar Bhata (1944), which marked Dilip Kumar's entry into the Hindi film industry.

Dilip Kumar first fell in love with married actress Kamini Kaushal. He then was in love with the actress Madhubala but they parted ways as her family was opposed to their union. He was also romantically linked with Vyjayanthimala. He married actress Saira Banu, who was 22 years younger than him, in 1966. He married a second time in 1980 to Asma but the marriage ended soon after.

The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 1991, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 and India's second highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan in 2015 for his contributions towards Indian cinem
