Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin and Pakistani Filmmaker Sabiha Sumar are on a mission to raise Rs Rs. 20,00,000 through their crowd funding campaign. Azmaish:Trials of Life is a feature length documentary that follows two courageous women as they travel their countries (India and Pakistan) looking for the answers to some important issues.
What is Azmaish about?
This film is about two women, Indian actress Kalki Koechlin and me, Pakistani filmmaker Sabiha Sumar, who go on an extraordinary journey across India and Pakistan to understand why people in our countries are turning to religious extremism for answers. Pakistan is overwhelmed by its war on terror. With religious extremists attacking school children, have their supporters realized that violence is not the solution? Meanwhile, just across the border, India is struggling to hold on to its secular identity under the weight of rising Hindutva groups. What does this portend for our neighbours; for our next generations? The film explores these questions through the lives of ordinary people. Kalki and I travel far and wide, meeting people from all walks of life, trying to understand the pulse of our countries.
Funds Required:
The shooting for the film has been completed and for post-production that involves picture and sound editing, grading and sound mix, the makers of Azmaish need money and want to raise around Rs. 20 Lakh through their crowd funding project. If the makers are unable to raise Rs. 20 Lakh, the money will be returned to the contributors. As of Jan 13, 2016, Rs 14,76,581 has been raised.
