Budha Ghar Pe Hai & Bakra Qiston Pe Stage Show Era

There was a time when Pakistani comedy stage shows were widely viewed on video cassettes in India.

Pakistan hasn't been able to capitalize on its talents and assets. We in India were witness to some of the most amazing Pakistani dramas and comedy stage shows like Buddha Ghar Pe Hai and Bakra Kishton Pe. Umar Sharif and Shakeel Siddiqui used to be household names, esp in the muslim community where cable operators used to air these stage shows on Cable TV. Since India and Pakistan speak the same language and have similar culture, Indians found these stage shows and dramas very relatable.

Sadly, Pakistan has not been able to capitalize on the popularity of its stage shows in India. Their dramas were overshadowed by Ekta Kapoor's Indian soap operas, their comedy shows didn't have new content and when we talk about 2017, The Kapil Sharma Show is more popular than any Pakistani stage comedy show could ever be.

We did see Shakeel Siddiqui entertain us with Urvashi Dholakia in Comedy Circus, but Shiv Sena spoilt the fun and he had to go back to Pakistan. The last time Umar Sharif entertained Indian audience was in Dubai at Zee Cine Awards many years ago. He now hosts a show on some Pakistani TV Channel and talks mostly negative about India and Indians. This negativity makes his show not at all watchable and people have lost respect for him. Sharif became one of the best-known stage performers in Pakistan after his extremely popular 1989 comedy stage.
