Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati has been cleared for release in the United Kingdom.

Padmavati is facing several problems in India causing its release to be indefinitely postponed, however the film has been cleared by The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) tweeted the certification: "PADMAVATI (12A) moderate violence, injury detail http://www.bbfc.co.uk/AZF357531"

Padmavati's producers, however, have clarified they will wait for a clearance from the CBFC in India before the film releases worldwide. Padmavati was scheduled to release in India on December 1, but it hasn't got the clearance from the CBFC yet. Besides, the political opposition to Padmavati has been growing. Madhya Pradesh government has already banned Padmavati and the movie is unlikely to release in Rajasthan due to the ongoing protest by the Karni Sena.

Padmavati revolves around the life of Queen Padmavati who was known for her beauty. As per the legend, Padmavati was married to Maharaja Ratan Singh, however the Muslim ruler of Delhi Sultanate, Alauddin Khilji, got mesmerized by her beauty and attacked her fort. Ratan Singh lost the battle and Padmavati committed Jauhar, an act of self immolation so that the enemy is unable to touch her.
