Be it the "Tanu Weds Manu" series or "Raanjhanaa", Aanand L. Rai's films is known for capturing the essence of small towns on the big screen.

Rai's acclaimed historical horror co-production "Tumbbad" has turned one, and the filmmaker laid importance on making films based on the real and diverse stories.

"'Tumbbad' was a beautiful story of how greed penetrates our mind even when we don't realise it. The narration of a small town was a representation of a simple mind gone greedy. I have always believed that India is a diverse land, which makes it a perfect cocoon of amazing, real and diverse stories," said Rai.

Directed by Rahi Anil Barve and Adesh Prasad, "Tumbbad" tells the tale of 19th-century India, where a scheming man becomes obsessed with finding the mythical treasure of his ancestors.

The film had premiered in the Critics' Week section of the 75th Venice International Film Festival.

It is Eros International-Aanand's presentation, Sohum Shah Films associated with Colour Yellow Productions.
