Rai's acclaimed historical horror co-production "Tumbbad" has turned one, and the filmmaker laid importance on making films based on the real and diverse stories.

"'Tumbbad' was a beautiful story of how greed penetrates our mind even when we don't realise it. The narration of a small town was a representation of a simple mind gone greedy. I have always believed that India is a diverse land, which makes it a perfect cocoon of amazing, real and diverse stories," said Rai.

Directed by Rahi Anil Barve and Adesh Prasad, "Tumbbad" tells the tale of 19th-century India, where a scheming man becomes obsessed with finding the mythical treasure of his ancestors.

The film had premiered in the Critics' Week section of the 75th Venice International Film Festival.
