The first song from Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati is out now. Titled 'Ghoomar', this song is a tribute to the Rajasthani culture and Deepika Padukone aces the Rajasthani folk dance. One of the most accomplished Jhoomar dancers of Rajasthan Jyothi D. Tommaar was on sets to ensure that Deepika Paduokone performed the dance form brilliantly. Deepika spent 12 days rehearsing the Ghoomar number and four days actually performing it on camera. About 60 chorus dancers, all trained Ghoomar exponents, performed alongside Deepika. This song is spectacular to look at. The red and golden theme of the song makes it a visual delight.
Ghoomar dance is performed by groups of women moving in a circular fashion and in swirling robes accompanied by men and women singing together. This spectacular folk dance derived its name from ‘ghoomna’. This dance form is mainly prevalent among Rajput community and is chiefly performed by Rajput women during auspicious and joyous occassions in Rajasthan. Ghoomar is often performed on special occasions, such as at weddings and during weddings, festivals and religious occasions. Watch the song below:
