Music

What the trailer couldn't do for the movie, A.R. Rahman's music does. It takes you back to the Mohenjo Daro era.

Mohenjo Daro's music has been released today. Mohenjo Daro stars Hrithik Roshan and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles and Kabir Bedi plays the antogonist. The movie is directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar who has been struggling to match his Lagaan feat. Academy Award winning Bollywood music director A.R. Rahman has composed the music while Javed Akhtar has penned the lyrics. Let us find out how if the music of Mohenjo Daro is worth the hype.

Mohenjo Daro Title Song:

The song begins with the typical A.R Rahman beats and we expect it to be the best of the lot but the kindergarten lyrics disappoint lot. Am not fond of lyrics like “Chand aur Suraj dono ne dekha, Mohenjo Daro mein rango ka mela”. This song is not bad but isn't likeable the first time. That's the speciality of Rahman’s music. It grows with time. The more you listen to his song, the more you start appreciating it. We hope that it happens the same with this song.

Sindhu Maa:

The music of this song will mesmerize you. It will take you back to the Mohenjo Daro era Bollywood style. Reminds us of Mani Ratnam songs by Rahman. It begins with Sindhu Maa then changes to Tu Hai song. A. R. Rahman, Sanah Moidutty and Megh Shah have sung this song.

Tu Hai:

Instantly likeable and the best song from this soundtrack. The video is already up but it disappoints a lot. The costumes and makeup in this song are not convincing enough for a movie claiming to depict an ancient civilization. On top of that Ashutosh has mixed in dancing in this smooth melody. We know that Hrithik Roshan is an amazing dancer but so was Hema Malini and she didn't dance on “Ae dil e nadan” song. There are a lotta things going against the movie but Rahman’s music is the USP. Rahman’s voice suits the song but doesn't suit Hrithik Roshan.

Sarsariya:

Sung by Shashwat Singh and Shashaa Tirupati, this song reminds us of Urmila Matondkar starrer Daud. This song doesn't gave repeat value as of yet. We hope it changes later.

Instrumental: Whispers of the Mind, Whispers of the Heart and the Shimmer of Sindhu and lakh lakh thora are beautiful instrumentals. Shimmer of Sindhu is the instrumental version of Tu Hai and it is very relaxing.

The soundtrack has only one main and likeabe song that has been used thrice. Overall the music is very refreshing and absolutely different from the usual dance numbers that are churned out these days. Sindhu Maa and Tu Hai stand out. The music is very likeable and unique. We wonder why other music directors don't use the instruments and sounds that Rahman uses. We give 4 stars to this music album.
