Did you Know?

Singer-songwriter Kailash Kher, who'll be introducing two music bands on his birthday (July 7), says that he did not get the right support when he came to Mumbai, and believes that promoting new talent will rejuvenate the entire music industry.

Happy birthday Kailash Kher! The famous Sufi singer turns 45 today, July 7! Known for superhit songs like Teri Deewani, Ya Rabba, Tere Liye, Yun Hi Chala. Born in a Kashmiri Pandit family, Kailash Kher hails from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Kher's first brush with music happened at a young age. When he was all of 14, Kher believed isolation was required to hone his art and left home in search of a guru, who could teach him everything about classical as well as folk music. He began listening to the likes of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Nushrat Fateh Ali Khan, and others.

He has been honored with the Padma Shri award in 2017 by the Government of India. He is the recipient of two trophies of Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer from the Bollywood movie Fanaa (2006), and Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer - Telugu from the Telugu film Mirchi (2013), with several other nominations.

Kher began his career by singing in ad jingles and bagged his first big singing break, 'Rabba Ishq Naa Hove' song from Akshay Kumar's Andaz.
