SRK's career took off post his negative performance in Baazigar. Did you know that SRK wasn't the first choice for Baazigar? Salman Khan was the first choice to play the villain in Abbas-Mustan's blockbuster. In fact, Abbas Mustan wanted to cast Sridevi in double role in place of Kajol and Shilpa but as fate would have it, both Sridevi and Salman Khan rejected the movie paving way for Shah Rukh Khan's stardom.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
SRK must be thankful to Salman Khan all his life for this rejection by Salman Khan. Aditya Chopra had offered the role of Raj to Salman Khan first, but for some reason he turned down the offer and the rest is history.
Chak De! India
Looks like most of SRK's hits were first offered to Salman Khan. Chak De India was also first offered to Salman Khan but he turned it down due to date issues. The role then went to SRK and he went on to win several awards for this movie.

Ghajini was first offered to Salman Khan and it is rumoured that it was Aamir kho recommended Salman for the role, but for some reason Salman turned it down and the movie went to Aamir again.

Karan Johar had first offered the role of Rohit to Salman Khan but Salman was keen on playing second fiddle to Shah Rukh Khan and turned down the offer. The role then went o Saif Ali Khan.
