Darr
Directed by Yash Chopra and starring SRK, Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol, Darr: A Violent Love Story was released on December 24, 1993. Darr was received well by critics and audiences and was declared a "Blockbuster" movie at the domestic as well as overseas box office. Did you know that Shah Rukh Khan was not the first choice for the role of Rahul Mehra? Yashji had first offered Sanjay Dutt the villain's role, but due to his jail sentence, he could not do the movie. Sudesh Berry was then considered for the role but was rejected after a screen test. Yashji then offered Darr to Ajay Devgan. Ajay didn't have the dates and so he didn't accept the offer. The role was then offered to Aamir Khan. Khan had some issues with the filming and was further discontented when Chopra refused to give him and Deol a joint narration of the script. Aamir Khan decided to opt out of the movie due to creative differences. Finally the role was offered to Shah Rukh Khan and it helped bring Shah Rukh Khan to stardom and he went on to feature in Yashji's every directorial venture after this film.
2. Saajan
Saajan was released on August 30, 1991. Director Lawrence D’ Souza‘s plan was to launch the two leading actors of that time together viz. Sanjay and Aamir. Sanjay Dutt loved the concept of the film and immediately signed for it. Akash Verma's role impress Aamir Khan that much and so he rejected the offer. The role was then offered to Salman Khan and the movie was a huge success. Madhuri Dixit's role was widely appreciated and the movie is still remembered for its melodious songs.
3. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge
Aditya Chopra's directorial venture was first offered to Aamir Khan but he rejected the role. The movie was released on October 20, 1995 and became the most successful Bollywood of that year and is still counted among the best Bollywood films of all time. The year 1995 also saw the release of Aamir Khan's Rangeela. SRK won the award for Best Actor that year. Aamir Khan felt that he should have got an award for Rangeela. Post this incident, he stopped attending award ceremonies.
