Dilip Kumar turned 95 on December 12, 2017. Considered a Bollywood legend, some of his films include gems like Mughal-e-Azam (1960), Ram Aur Shyam (1967), Devdas (1955), Naya Daur (1957), Gunga Jamuna (1961), Madhumati (1958) among others. 

He won the first ever Filmfare Best Actor award for the movie Daag, in 1984. He received Lifetime Achievement Award from then President of India, Pratibha Patil during the 54th National Film Awards ceremony in the year 2008. Here are some more little known but interesting facts about this great actor.

  • Dilip Kumar was born as Mohammad Yusuf Khan in Pakistan. The name ‘Dilip Kumar ‘was given by Devika Rani.
  • Dilip Kumar married at the age of 44 to Saira Banu who was then just 22 in 1966.
  • Dilip Kumar married a Hyderabadi girl, ‘Asma’  in 1980. However, the marriage didn’t last long.
  • He is the first Bollywood superstar who hailed from Pakistan.
  • Dilip Kumar is known as the Tragedy King of Bollywood.
  • Dilip Kumar has won 8 Filmfare awards and was nominated for 19 Filmfare nominations in his Film career.
  • Dilip Kumar was awarded the highest Civilian award by Pakistan, Nishan-e-Imtiaz in 1998.
  • Ehsaan Khan, 77, and Aslam Khan, 75, Brothers of Dilip Kumar dragged him into court over Pali Hill Bungalow. The case is still in court.
