Many of us grew up watching Mile Sur Mera Tumhara on DD1, esp on Sundays when all the children back in the early 90s were engrossed in serials like Ramayan, Mahabharatha, Tipu Sultan, Potli Baba Ki Kahani, Mowgli and many more. Sundays were so special back then, then entire family used to get together to watch these awesome shows on Doordarshan, India's National TV Channel back then. DD1 was the only source of news and entertainment for the entire country. Even our neighbors who didn't have TV back then used to join us to catch these popular shows on Doordarshan. And in between these shows, we used to have songs on national integration like "Ek Chidiyaa Anek Chidiya" and the "Mile Sur Mera Tumhara".

Mile Sur Mera Tumhara had a beautiful melody that touched everyone's heart. It was sung in Hindi, Telugu, Kashmiri, Punjabi, Sindhi, Urdu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Oriya, Assamese, Gujarati, Marathi. The same phrase was repeated in fourteen Indian languages.

"Mile Sur Mera Tumhara, Toh Sur Bane Hamara", meaning "When my musical note and your musical note merge, it becomes our musical note".
